Nebraska Cancer Specialists Open New Center in West Omaha
10.31.07 — posted in: newsWest Omaha’s only free standing, full service comprehensive cancer center has opened.
The Midwest Cancer Center, located at 17201 Wright Street, combines all of the multidisciplinary diagnostic and treatment services for cancer patients at one location, including state-of-the-art imaging and diagnostic equipment, chemotherapy, radiation oncology, surgical services and numerous support services said Robert Langdon, M.D., of Nebraska Cancer Specialists - The Doctors of Oncology Hematology West, P.C., a group of 12 oncologists in private practice.
Nebraska Cancer Specialists operate the Midwest Cancer Center in conjunction with Alegent Health. In addition, Nebraska Cancer Specialists care for cancer patients at the Methodist Estabrook Cancer Center, Alegent Bergan Mercy Cancer Center and the Midwest Cancer Center Papillion.
A grand opening and ceremony for the new center is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 1.
"Prior to the Midwest Cancer Center’s opening, those in need of cancer services had quite a distance to travel in order to receive the care they needed," said Ann Jones, vice president of oncology services for Alegent Health. "This new facility will provide the same level of high-quality care patients have come to expect in a location that’s convenient and more readily accessible to where they live and work."
The center was designed for patient comfort and convenience and consists of approximately 52,000 total square feet on two levels.
Nebraska Cancer Specialists provide medical oncology services at the Midwest Cancer Center which include a private but open chemotherapy area with floor-to-ceiling windows and access to an outdoor patio, emphasizing patient comfort. Wireless internet is available for patients and families throughout the building.
The Midwest Cancer Center and Nebraska Cancer Specialists participate in more than 100 clinical trial programs, Dr. Langdon said. "Clinical trials serve a dual purpose in the care of cancer patients. Clinical trials benefit the patient and the field of oncology to enable us to provide state-of-the-art, leading edge care."
The space is warm and inviting with a two-story atrium and windows, floor-to-ceiling waterfall, healing garden area and ample parking within easy access to the building on both levels.
